date night: take me out to the ball game

Whether you’ve just started seeing someone, or it’s a long term relationship, there’s always the question: what are we going to do tonight?

Bars, restaurants, bowling alleys, and movie theatres start to get boring and repetitive after a while. They’re also not so exciting during the warm summer weather. That’s where sporting events come into play. If you really want to have a fun time, a game is pretty much a guarantee.

I’ve had the pleasure of getting the dating experience at a hockey game, soccer game, and a baseball game. All three are great, but if I were to pick one for the sole purpose of having a nice evening with someone, it would have to be baseball.

Baseball is a very technical sport, and unlike soccer and hockey, it only really has short bursts of excitement. Yes, you still need to keep your eyes on the game, but it’s quite difficult to completely miss something exciting (unless of course you are busy buying a drink). A game with 9 innings, as you can imagine, does not normally take a short amount of time. Be prepared to spend a couple hours at the stadium, and be prepared to spend a couple extra dollars on drinks and snacks.

Yet here is where the benefit comes in. Imagine, you are sitting beside someone who you want to get to know better, or at least have some time to talk. You’ve got the beer to loosen up the tension and the butterflies, and you’ve got the perfect view of today’s game. You pretty much have the whole length of the game to talk, and you also get spurts of adrenaline to cheer on your home team together.

Baseball is the ultimate bonding experience, where not only does the sport bring you together, but the chance to socialize in the meantime as well. That being said, you can also make the game into a social outing for you and your friends, and not solely keep it for date night.
