Wasn’t it just yesterday that we were posting pictures that should have motivated us and our Instagram followers to get started on our bikini bodies?
A kickboxing Groupon and 4 months later, here we are, with just a month left of summer. I’ve consumed 10L of ice cream, had way too many sugary cocktails, and didn’t take very good care of my body all throughout the never-ending Toronto heatwave, and I’ve come to a point where I’m terrified to put on a bathing suit in public.
Like most people, I’m in a state of panic as I realize that 21 days from tomorrow, I am off on a picture-taking adventure, where the narcissist within me believes she needs to have a six-pack (on my stomach, not in the fridge) in order to have a good time. Whether it’s morally correct or not, I realize that I need to make the best of the next 21 days, while still enjoying what’s left of Summer 2016.
It’s one thing to tell my boyfriend or my mother that I plan to do something, and it’s another to tell a lineup of subscribers. Obviously I’m not very disciplined if I have to resort to sharing publicly my plans for the next 21 days in order to hold myself liable to following through, but hey, that’s reality, and that’s why we’re here right now.
So without further a do, my commitments are as follows (you’re more than welcome to join, if you’d like)…
Substitute all forms of alcohol with wine. Preferably red, or not-too-sweet white. Who am I kidding, I can’t cut out alcohol completely, especially in the summer, but I can definitely take a glass of cold Sauvignon Blanc over a beer or margarita.
Do some form of sweat-inducing physical activity for 40+ minutes, 5 days per week. Whether it’s a 1-hour kickboxing class, an in-home strengthening workout, or a run around the neighbourhood, it’s gotta be done.
Less ice-cream, more Nanashake, the vegan frozen dessert on Yonge and Sheppard. Nothing wrong with ice, banana, and nuts, am I right? (tip: personal favourite flavour – Rosey Pistachio.) If there’s one way to replace ice-cream in a healthy way, it’s this.
Drink more water, eat more vegetables. Isn’t that how we stop ice-cream cravings, anyway? Not to mention the need to stay hydrated with all that exercising I’m planning to do…
And of course, just all around healthy eating. I think I’ve eaten enough macarons and pastries in the first part of the summer to make up for the lack of them in the next three weeks.
So the real question – how will I measure my success?
Whether I’ll share it at the end or not (I haven’t decided yet if I want to), I intend to take a photo of myself before I start, as well as weigh myself. I KNOW, I know, I know, weight is not necessarily a factor of successful exercising and healthy eating, but it’s a good way to understand how much muscle vs. fat weight I am carrying.
Let me know if you have any tips for my 21-day challenge, or if you’d like to join!
So now, as I eat my last spoonful of ice cream, I can promise that my diet, indeed, starts tomorrow.
