Being in Paris with the love of my life is a dream come true. I couldn’t have asked for a better week, and probably from our last couple weeks of travel, Paris is the most romantic spot (yes, even more than Venice or Rome). Every sight, every sound, every corner we turn, makes us fall even more in love with each other and this city.
Going on a nice date in Paris can get expensive, or even disappointing. Dinner on a cruise along the seine could cost 100 Euros, and any other restaurant could have a disappointing French Onion Soup (this is a big deal for me). We found one of the best ways the spend an hour or so of our evening: watching the Eiffel Tower sparkle.
Every night, after the sun has gone down, every hour on the dot until 1:00 am, the Eiffel Tower sparkles with lights for a whole five minutes. An installation from 2003 that was meant to last 10 years, has now become permanent due to its popularity. Being lucky enough to know the details of this, we set out one evening with a bottle of wine, a blanket, and some French music on my phone.
We sat down at Champ de Mars, the large green fields behind the Eiffel Tower, just opposite of Trocadéro on the other side. Laying out our blanket (aka one of my large scarves), we had a few minutes until 11:00pm to get our wine open.
With white wine glasses in hand, and Sous Le Ciel de Paris by Edith Piaf playing on my phone, the sparkling began right on time at 11:00, and it was wonderful.
